KICKBOXING

Senshido’s Thai Kickboxing program is somewhat unique. Both the kicking and the Boxing range have been modified for maximum street efficiency by shortening the movements and making them centerline oriented in order to minimize telegraphy.

Senshido’s Thai Kickboxing class is a modified amalgamation of Muay Thai and Savate. All strikes are permitted anywhere on the body from head to toe including knees elbows, backfists, sweeps and head butts. This of course using proper safety equipment but at the same time allowing less limitations within these ranges. Sparring (fighting in training) is completely optional. (For scheduling, go to the how to Group Class schedule)

We use the kicking and the Boxing ranges as tools for the development of the holistic fighter. To have a global understanding of hand to hand combat and self defense, it’s imperative to be versatile in all ranges. The Kickboxing ranges, in conjunction with the close quarter combat and ground fighting ranges and proper psychological preparation, offers many practical tools such as footwork, mobility, proximity sense, angles of attack, evasions, contact experience and much more.

IMPORTANT MESSAGE: It is our social responsibility to advise you of the following:

Most people confuse Kickboxing with self-defense. Contrary to popular belief, Kickboxing is NOT a method of self-defense. The majority of violent confrontations including rapes, street fights, muggings, attempted murders and aggravated assaults begin in the close quarter range and more often than not, may include weapon involvement; something kickboxing DOES NOT address.

For the most part, kicking and Boxing will be severely negated in most environments or circumstances such as elevators, icy surfaces, knee high snow, in bed, on the ground, multiple attackers, concealed weapons etc.

Kickboxing is but a sport. It is but 15 percent of self-defense on its own. Kickboxing is a phenomenal source of exercise and physical conditioning. However, if you are concerned about your personal safety and real self-defense, then we strongly recommend the full program of Personal Protection and Hand to Hand Combat INCLUDING Kickboxing.

Train intelligently and diligently.
